Two Victims Named in the Providence Campus Incident as Police Press On With Hunt for Killer.

Two students who lost their lives in the recent tragic incident in Providence were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their killer persisted following the release by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also expressed sympathies on social media, stating: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the renowned school, according to relatives.

His name was officially acknowledged by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.

Details of the Attack

An additional nine individuals were injured in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 arrested in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“There is a killer at large,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and head another way, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate new worry for our public”.

The shooter began shooting inside a room in the engineering facility on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a authority informed the Associated Press.

Police that raided the lodging recovered two firearms and two loaded 30-round magazines when the individual was arrested, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was released from the hospital, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.
