Attorney General's Statement
The nation's top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, confirmed her stepping down on the start of the week. Bondi stated that the appeals court finding made it unworkable for her to lead the department effectively.
"Let no one confuse adherence to the ruling as defeat," she declared. "This battle will now extend throughout the nation."

Her resignation was triggered by a federal appellate panel found that she had been unlawfully serving as the top prosecutor. This ruling is likely to affect many prosecutions in the state.
The appellate judges said that a acting appointment that skirted the advice and consent of the Senate violated the statute on vacant positions.
