Cameron Norrie earned the most important victory of his professional journey by coming back from a set down to overcome top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the early stage of the prestigious indoor tournament.

Although he had earlier defeated Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this victory signifies Norrie's maiden win over a sitting world top-ranked player.

Norrie, ranked No 31, also stopped Alcaraz's dominant run of nine finals in a row and 17 straight Masters 1000 successes, which marked the finest stretch of performances in the Spaniard's developing professional path.
